Production Manager – East Midlands

Production Manager

We are seeking to appoint a Production Manager for a Pinxton-based manufacturer of high-quality architectural cast stone products for the construction and building industry. The company produces both wet cast and semi-dry cast stone products, supplying customers across a range of construction and building projects.

Role Overview

We are looking for a practical, hands-on Production Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our production operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for organising the production team, coordinating workflow, meeting customer deadlines, and ensuring that operational activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards.

Previous experience in cast stone, concrete, manufacturing, construction products, or a similar production environment would be desirable, but it is not essential. More important is the right attitude: someone who is organised, reliable, practical, willing to get involved, and able to lead people effectively in a busy production setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, and manage daily production activity across wet cast and semi-dry cast stone manufacturing.
  • Lead, supervise, and support the production team to ensure work is completed on time and to the required standard.
  • Allocate labour, materials, moulds, and equipment effectively to meet production schedules and customer delivery deadlines.
  • Monitor workflow through the production process, identifying bottlenecks and taking practical action to keep jobs moving.
  • Work closely with sales, design, administration, and dispatch teams to ensure production priorities are clear and achievable.
  • Maintain high standards of product quality, housekeeping, health and safety, and general operational discipline.
  • Ensure materials, consumables, tools, and equipment are available and used efficiently.
  • Support continuous improvement across production methods, team organisation, quality, and output.
  • Deal with day-to-day operational issues quickly and practically, escalating matters where necessary.
  • Help develop a positive, productive, and accountable team culture.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to get involved on the shop floor.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan work effectively.
  • Good people management skills, with the ability to motivate, organise, and direct a team.
  • Calm and reliable under pressure, especially when working to production deadlines.
  • Good problem-solving ability and a practical approach to overcoming operational challenges.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to deal with people across the business.
  • High standards for quality, safety, housekeeping, and productivity.
  • Flexible, dependable, and willing to take ownership of the production operation.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, construction products, concrete, stone, or workshop environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience supervising or organising a small team would be helpful.
  • Experience working to deadlines, schedules, or customer delivery requirements would be an advantage.
  • Full training on Serene Stone’s products, processes, and production methods will be provided for the right candidate.

What We Are Looking For

This role would suit someone who enjoys being close to the work, likes organising people and processes, and takes pride in getting jobs completed properly and on time. The ideal candidate will be practical, proactive, and comfortable taking responsibility for the smooth running of a busy production environment.
